Wide leg Crochet shorts/Not Skorts

I’m on a roll of making projects that have been on my mind for too long. These wide leg crochet shorts have been on the list for a couple years already, and I had such good luck with the last big project, I felt like I’d better ride the wave while its here!

I know, I was really just too intimidated by the idea of this crochet shorts project in reality. I always came up with a reason why I couldn’t do it yet, one being I never quite found the right yarn.

That perfectly good excuse was ruined by this Lindy Chain Linen and Pima cotton yarn from last weeks crochet dress project. The natural fibers of course where a perfect match for a pair of women’s crochet shorts. So, off to designing I went….

What I came up with was a super wearable, comfortable, cute as heck and super beginner friendly pair of women’s wide leg crochet shorts.

I’ve wanted to try a wide legged design ever since I made my last crochet shorts project. If you missed those, or you’re just looking for a more form fitting pair of shorts to make, check it out.

These were designed with summer and fall in mind, and the linen cotton blend is perfectly suited for it in feel and look. That linen drape effect nailed it on these shorts. You could also rock these in the cooler, dare I say winter, months with a good pair of leggings.

I added belt loops to these crochet shorts mainly for fashion options. I’ve seen these cute rope cords all over Pinterest and it was something I had to incorporate here. I’m really glad I did.

Not only does the rope tie look fantastic, the loops make it possible to wear with a cute belt. It might be my favorite look, but it’s tough to choose.

Either way, the belt loops make it easy to switch up your look.

*I made a total of 6 belt loops

Sew the belt loops into the shorts

We’ll use a yarn needle and the tails that we left earlier to sew. I added 6 belt loops to mine: One on each side, two in the front and two in the back. Feel free to play around with them and add more or less, just make sure they’re all symmetrical. You can model them from your favorite pair of jeans as well.

Drawstring

For the drawstring, I used a cotton rope about 68″ long. It’s meant to be removable so you have the option to use a belt as an alternative look.

If you’d like to crochet your drawstring, you can simply make a chain long enough to wrap around your waist and tie a bow. Then you can use single or half double crochet back and forth for a few rounds, depending on how wide you want your drawstring/belt closure to be.

That’s all there is to it!

Congratulations on your new crochet shorts!

I hope you all enjoy them. I can’t wait to see everyone’s work. I think they’re just SO freaking cute and I think you all will feel the same when you finish yours.

Till next time,

Happy crocheting!
