Making a granny square bag: Sunburst granny square

This crochet granny square bag is a really fun and low pressure kind of project. It’s made from two sunburst granny squares, a strap added and a lining if you’re ambitious.

These two sunburst granny squares can be made using any yarn you like. There are no size adjustments neccesary.

You can make your granny square bag from so many different color combos, customize the strap and even the lining.

The lining is optional but I highly recommend it because it really makes your bag look professional and adds some extra security to your belongings. Check out my simple lining tutorial here if you haven’t seen it yet.

The sunburst granny square is a really beautiful design to play around with different colors as well, so don’t be scared to play around with it.

This granny square bag project is also a perfect scrap yarn project. You can use whatever yarn you like. I used some scheepjes stone washed XL in 4 different colors I’ve had laying around for quite a while.

I was lucky that I had some bright colors to make mine with a little summer vibes to it. I LOVE using up scrap yarn, especially when the colors match so well.

Repeat row 2 until your strap reaches about 40 inches long or your desired length

The last row of I-Cord : With 3 loops on hook, YO pull through all the loops on hook then ch 1 to secure. Cut the yarn and leave about 6 inches tail

SEW THE STRAPS INTO THE BAG

To sew the straps into the bag, turn your granny square bag right side out and we’re going to use the tails that we left earlier on the straps to sew into the bag on each side with the yarn needle. I sew about haft an inch down from the top part of the bag but you can adjust it how ever you like.
